The course materials have been designed to help students improve their study skills as well as their knowledge. You are not expected to be an expert in your chosen field of study but you are expected to apply yourself to your reading, note taking and assignments. The most important requirements are motivation and commitment as well as a willingness to learn new skills. Once you become a student, you will be able to find information about the study support available via the respective university’s virtual learning platform.
No, the degree certificates do not have the mode of study on them. The degree that you receive will be exactly the same as those received by campus-based students at the university.
There is no difference between the qualification you receive on a Distance Learning course and the equivalent qualification which you might study for on campus.
Postgraduate distance learning courses normally take around 2-4 years to complete, and undergraduate courses can take up to six years to complete by distance learning depending on the course you choose to study. For more information about how long a course will take please see the individual course page.
The amount of time needed does vary from student to student and from course to course, but as a very rough guide we recommend that you will need to set aside between 12 and 15 hours a week study time for a postgraduate degree.
It is vital you have regular internet access throughout your course as this will help you to benefit from the resources available on the respective university’s online learning platform, which will be available to you at any time, from anywhere.
Some courses will require more frequent access, and a few may suggest that you will benefit from using broadband, so please check with the admin department if you have any concerns.
You will be able to contact your lecturers and tutors and your fellow students online and you will be able to access:
- departmental websites, resources and informational services
- resources from the e-library
- information about future course choice
- student support and welfare services
Your internet connection can be by dial-up or broadband from your home, workplace or Internet cafe. If you are travelling on business or privately, you will be able to connect to the online platform from anywhere with internet access and through any networked computer, simply by knowing your user name and password, which will be provided to you at the start of your programme.
The first thing you should do is contact your designated tutor or the distance learning administrative team in your Department. They have years of experience in helping busy students to succeed.
We recognise the fact that for our students, travelling to the UK is not necessarily an option. For most of our distance learning courses, it is possible to complete your studies from wherever you are in the world without visiting the University. However, we recommend you please check with our academic consultants about the attendance requirement of the course you are interested in.
Even though you may be studying via distance learning, you are still a student of the respective university and you are welcome to visit the campus at any time and make use of the university facilities.
Graduation ceremonies for students on full degree programmes (Masters or Bachelors) take place at the respective university in the UK. Attendance is optional, but many distance learning students welcome the chance to visit the university, meet fellow graduates and celebrate their success.
Scholarships and travel bursaries are provided for certain post-graduate programmes only. Please contact our academic consultants for more information.
To find out the current tuition fees please check the course information page on our website for the programme you are interested in. Alternatively you can contact our academic consultants.
