About Iraq

Iraq, officially the Republic of Iraq is a country that can strongly claim to be the ‘cradle of civilisation’, as it was home to the Sumerian Civilisation, one of the first and oldest in the world. Historically known as Mesopotamia, modern Iraq is home to multiple distinct and diverse ethnic groups, such as the Arabs, Kurds, Yazidis, Kawliya and many more. The country’s two major rivers – the Tigris and the Euphrates – has helped create large portions of fertile land suitable for farming. It’s rich culturally heritage is still visible today, with a host of renowned artists, painters, poets and sculptors hailing from there.
